Cognito jointly won The People Moving Business Award for the most innovative use of mobile technology in the Public sector with our customer Transport for London

As the winner TfL were able to demonstrate direct return on investment as a result of using Cognito’s Mobile Workforce Management solution.

Transport for London (TfL) manages the capital’s bus transport network in the UK. To keep this vital and often complex service operating and ensuring the highest standards possible, TfL required efficient real-time communications with its remote employees responsible for Revenue Protection, Network Operations and Infrastructure Development.

In collaboration with Cognito, leading expert in Mobile Workforce Management systems and practice, TfL set about capturing the established field practices of its mobile workers. By tapping into the experience of senior managers who have risen through the ranks, and who have long experience of TfL’s working practices, this workflow has been converted into a set of logical forms and conditional steps displayed on a Windows Mobile PDA.

TfL has realised broad benefits from its deployment of the solution. This has come in the form of financial returns, and a superior service to the public. From a financial perspective, the system has a proven ROI of 6 months and at the same time has delivered benefits to all of the stakeholders, TfL management, their field staff, and the public that TfL, as a public body, are required to serve.  Currently, 670 engineers utilise Cognito’s Mobile Workforce Management solution and the revenue division’s 300 inspectors have delivered a 60% decrease in time spent writing reports.

The result of the solution is an integrated approach to the management and maintenance of a vital public transport system for the benefit of all.
